GUSTAV STICKLEY'S 158th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
A gathering to celebrate the 158th birthday of Gustav Stickley took place on March 9, 2016 at Dalton's American Decorative Arts on James Street in Syracuse, New York. The event was organized by Dalton's co-owner David Rudd, president of the Arts and Crafts Society of Central New York [ACSCNY] and preservationist Beth Crawford of the architectural firm of Crawford and Stearns. Among the fifteen attendees were representatives of ACSCNY, the Onondaga Historical Association, Stickley, Audi & Co., as well as two descendants of Gustav Stickley and other fans of the American Arts & Crafts Movement of which Mr. Stickley was a leading figure.
A highlight of the occasion was the reading of a proclamation issued by the Hon. Stephanie A. Miner, Mayor of Syracuse, proclaiming "the Ninth Day of March, Two Thousand Sixteen as GUSTAV STICKLEY DAY In the City of Syracuse." Also at the event an announcement was made of the formation of the Gustav Stickley House Foundation, an organization that will both raise
funds for and oversee the restoration of Gustav Stickley's iconic Syracuse house, which is thought to contain the first "Craftsman" interior in Americ
