What a great visit to the tile works of Bob Shenfeld and crew in Brewerton yesterday. We had a good turnout, and a fascinating explanation and tour of the process for making art tiles today, and the complex work of creating all the mosaics for the New York subway system. Wow! What a cool - but extremely demanding - job! But if you like jigsaw puzzles this might be the work for you. Here some photos, and we'll try get some of this written up in more detail. Bob is making tiles for the Estabrook Conservancy restoration which we expect to visit this year, and also for the Gustav Stickley House, where we'll have a members only special tour on April 23rd. Sometimes you can by some of the limited edition art tiles at the Everson Museum gift shop - they benefit the Museum. They are beautiful, so plan your holiday shopping now. Thanks to Bob and his staff for taking the time, and Beth Crawford for setting up this event.
